Around League Two

13 June 2019

As the start of the season edges closer, we take a look at the latest happenings around Sky Bet League Two…

Football World Pays Tribute To Justin Edinburgh

The football world has united in grief, as we mourn the tragic death of Leyton Orient manager Justin Edinburgh.

Edinburgh was appointed manager in November 2017 and helped to secure a 13th place finish, before turning the club’s fortunes around the last season.

The former Spurs defender recently guided the O’s back to League Two as National League champions.

Orient announced a period of mourning and opened the stadium for supporters to pay their respects.

Oldham Appoint Ex-Monaco Boss

Former Monaco boss Laurent Banide has agreed a deal with Oldham Athletic to become their new head coach.

The Frenchman spent 12 years on Monaco’s coaching staff before becoming manager in 2006.

Recently, the 51-year-old has coached a number of clubs in the Middle East and leaves Qatar club Umm Salal for Boundary Park.

Banide fills the role left by Paul Scholes in March. The former Manchester United midfielder quit after just 31 days in charge of the Latics.

Howkins Signs For Exiles

Newport County have announced the signing of Kyle Howkins after he was released from West Bromwich Albion.

The 6ft 5in defender arrives at Rodney Parade after loan spells at Port Vale, Cambridge United, Mansfield and Kidderminster.

Exiles boss Michael Flynn declared his long-standing admiration for the 23 year old at his unveiling on Tuesday.

Newport agonisingly missed out on promotion to League One after an extra time defeat to Tranmere Rovers in the Play-Off Final.
