Sol Campbell’s side could not find the finishing touch as the Silkmen’s second public preseason friendly ended goalless despite a dominant display against Leek Town.
Leek goalkeeper Ben Chapman pulled off a number of fine saves to deny Macc in a frustrating evening at Harrison Park.
After a cagey opening with no clear cut chances, Macc burst into life in the 11th minute as Jak McCourt hit a teasing ball across the face of goal which was taken away from the onrushing Joe Ironside and Ben Stephens.
Macc pressure continued to build and soon after a trialist fed the ball to Paddy Osadebe but his low shot was saved well by goalkeeper Chapman.
The hosts first chance came in the 19th minute when the ball fell to the feet of Tim Grice just a few yards from goal, but he could only hit his shot well over the crossbar.
The Silkmen saw plenty of the ball in the first half and none more so than James Pearson. His marauding runs and dangerous crosses down the right flank presented plenty of chances for Macc forwards, however the half ended goalless.
Sol made no changes at half time and again the half started slowly. Macc’s first chance in the second half came in the 62nd minute after a smart turn and cross from Osadebe resulted in Joe Ironside smashing his shot over the bar.
Pearson continued to impress, and he forced another good save from the Leek goalkeeper after a darting run from the right touchline. This would prove to be a busy few minutes for Chapman in the Dabbers goal as he saved powerful drives from both McCourt and then Osadebe just moments apart.
However, the best chance of the game fell to Jacob Blyth who came on for Joe Ironside midway through the second half. His shot was kept out from around 6 yards after a great knock down from Pearson.
Leek rarely tested the Macclesfield goalkeeper in the second half and despite lengthy periods of pressure and dominance of the ball, the game finished goalless at Harrison Park.
