A young Silkmen side suffered a slender 1 - 0 defeat at Cheadle Heath Nomads last night, as Phil Yuille's 13th minute strike proved to be the difference between the two sides at The ProSeal Stadium.
In a closely-contested game, Yuille ghosted in at the far post, as he latched onto a long ball into the box and finished at the far post.
Macc could well have claimed an instant reply, as Ahmin Ahmed surged down the right-hand side and sent a tantalising cross into the area which Cory Bentley-Knight sent agonisingly wide.
Much of Macc's attacking play came through Bentley-Knight, yet Cheadle had chances to extend the scoreline of their own as Rick Tindall and Steve Kirby both went close for the hosts.
Five minutes before the interval Mohammed Duran created space in the midfield, before surging forward and hitting a venomous drive which Jonty Cottam in the Cheadle goal did well to claim at the first attempt.
The second half saw a war of attrition in the midfield, with both sides fully committed to claiming the pre-season honours.
As such, chances for both sides were few and far between, with the defences largely dominating proceedings.
On 70 minutes, Jake Wright broke free down the right for the hosts and his low cross into the area caused a melee of epic proportions which the Macc defence eventually managed to clear.
Five minutes later Macc were awarded a free-kick twenty-five yards from goal and when Josh Clegg hit the ball towards goal, it looked certain to restore parity. Only a breathtaking save from Cottam prevented that from happening, as he athletically tipped the ball over the bar.
