New signing Jacob Blyth took under a minute to open his Silkmen account at Congleton on Tuesday evening and after the game, we spoke to the former Leicester City man for his take on the opening pre-season encounter.
“The main thing is to get the minutes in the bank and it’s always nice to start with a goal, I’m delighted with that. It’s also nice to get the cobwebs out the way and get the lungs back open.”
The 26-year-old unleashed a clinical drive a matter of seconds at the 106.9 Silk FM Stadium and this can only add to his confidence levels ahead of the new season.
“I saw Ben (Stephens) running in behind and he’s really good at getting into the opposition's spaces. I held my run and thankfully the strike went into the back of the net.
“It’s nice to not have that cloud over my head and I’m looking forward to the next couple of games."
We also asked Jacob about whether or not further goals could have been added within the first period of the game –
“It’s the first pre-season game, you’ll still be a bit rusty and as I said it's about getting the cobwebs out the way.
"I think a few more shooting drills, sharpness and quick feet in training will help, as will a few more minutes on the pitch in these next few games.
“We go into every single game wanting to win and it’s nice to do so tonight.”
