Around League Two

6 July 2019

With pre-season well underway for the Silkmen, we take a look at what is happening in the Sky Bet League Two…

Former Lioness Boss Joins Boro

Stevenage have appointed former England Women boss Mark Sampson as first team coach. The 36-year-old joins Dino Maamria’s coaching team in his first role since his dismissal from England in September 2017.

Maamria has also appointed David Oldfield to his staff as he bids to build on their tenth-placed finish last season. Sampson arrives with a wealth of experience on the international stage and in his four years in charge, he guided the Lionesses to semi-finals of the World Cup and European Championships.

In his unveiling, Maamria declared Sampson as a big asset to the club as it looks to progress.

Bradford Land Palmer Loan

Bradford City have signed midfielder Matt Palmer from League One outfit Rotherham United on a season long loan.

Th 24-year-old becomes Gary Bowyer’s tenth signing of the summer after playing 202 senior games for The Millers. Palmer has already tasted success in League Two, as he helped Burton Albion to the title in the 2014/15 season.

Palmer leaves Rotherham in search of regular first team football after making only ten league appearances last season as they were relegated from the Championship.

Ajose Signs For Exeter

Exeter City have swooped to sign striker Nicky Ajose after his release from Charlton Athletic at the end of last season.

The 27-year-old has struggled to hit form since signing for The Addicks in 2016, however he boasts an impressive scoring record of 81 goals in 269 league appearances. The length of his contract with Matt Taylor’s side has not yet been announced.

The Silkmen will travel to St James Park to face The Grecians in the first game of the 2019/20 campaign on Saturday August 3rd.
