The Silkmen players reported back for pre-season training at the start of the week. all of whom were eager to impress ahead of the big kick-off against Exeter City which is now just over four week's away.
We caught up with defender Zak Jules and started off by asking him whether he has enjoyed the summer break -
"Yeah, it's been good. Pretty chilled and it was good to relax ahead of the new season."
The rest was no doubt made all the more sweeter off the back of our dramatic EFL survival at the end of the last campaign - an achievement which Zak played a prominent role in securing -
"It was job done last season really, that was what I signed up for in January - to come here and help the Football Club retain their EFL status.
"It certainly made the summer a lot better!
"In football, it's pretty much on to the next challenge though - you don't really have time to sit back and rest on your laurels!"
Ahead this week's return to more conventional training sessions, the lads conduction an initial testing event last week which certainly heralded the end of the summer break for many -
"I am glad that we have got that out of the way!
"It's a good little welcome back and the hard-work which has already begun will stand us in good stead when the season begins".
With the pre-season fixture schedule starting to fill up, we asked Zak whether he was looking forward to the opening friendly at Congleton next Tuesday evening -
"I can't wait - that's the best bit and it means less running!"
"You want to get fit in pre-season, but you also want to play games - so it's good that they are coming around!"
Finally, we asked Zak about the aims for the season ahead and whether he thinks that we can build on what proved to be an epic end to the last campaign -
"I hope that we can get a squad together which the gaffer is after. We should be aiming for mid-table and beyond - hopefully we will have a nice solid season.
"But we have to get the foundations right and that starts now".
