Macclesfield Town are pleased to announce that our Under 21 side will be competing in the Northwest Under 21 Development League during the 2019/20 season.
The squad will feature the rising stars from the club's new full time Academy programme and this includes many of last season's highly successful Under 18 side.
The team will feature in the North West Under 21 Premier Division - facing strong opponents such as; Tranmere Rovers, Witton Albion, 1874 Northwich, Stalybridge Celtic and City of Liverpool. This should prove to be a tough challenge for our young side and one which we are all looking forward to.
In addition to this, we can also confirm that we will play all our home fixtures on the superb grass pitch at the Platt Lane Complex in Fallowfield, Manchester, with kick-offs set for 1pm on Sunday afternoon's.
We caught up with Youth Development Manager Paul McGuire for his thoughts on this exciting new team -
"I felt it was important to challenge our lads against older ,more physical opposition and this team will supplement the Wednesday afternoon Under 19 EFL fixtures perfectly.
"It also allows gives us the opportunity to keep older players at the club - lads that have gone on to University etc. The competition allows for three over-aged players and therefore this can also offer a platform for any first team players to gain fitness or pitch time coming back from injuries."
Paul continued -
"We see this as an extension of our new Academy set up and a really good stepping stone to senior football. Academy lads should see it as a reward to be included in the under 21 team - playing at a great venue alongside some really good players."
The season will commence on 18th August and more details on the opening round of fixtures will be available in due course.
