Miles: "Everyone Put A Shift In"

15 January 2019

Miles Welch-Hayes was quick to praise his teammates, after The Silkmen recorded their first three points of 2019 in comprehensive fashion on Saturday.

Tyrone Marsh and Scott Wilson scored seven minutes apart to notch a fantastic victory away at Grimsby Town, ensuring Macc moved to within three points of safety.

The win was just reward for the Silkmen backline, which remained regimented and unbreachable for the full ninety minutes - included the returning Welch-Hayes.

I haven’t been starting games very often” the 22-year-old admitted. “I’ve been coming off the bench and onto the wing, so it’s good to be back with a start and a clean sheet – it’s very positive.

We went there [Blundell Park] to get the result we wanted, and everybody put in a shift. We could have scored a few more goals as well, but ultimately we got the job done, which is excellent really.”

The skilful youngster has consistently proved an influential presence off the bench this season, but his sterling performance at the weekend could throw him into contention for future starting places.

However, Welch-Hayes has his focus firmly on the bigger picture, with Oldham Athletic visiting Moss Rose on Saturday.

“The main aim is to get points,” the versatile full-back continued. “We are down there in the league table at the minute, so the most important thing is getting wins.

“The three points on Saturday will give us more confidence, so we’ve got to go out against Oldham and try to get the job done again.”
