Match Preview: Macclesfield Town v Crewe Alexandra

9 February 2019

Macclesfield Town will aim to continue their positive home form as they host Crewe Alexandra in the Sky Bet League Two tomorrow. That’s right, it’s the Cheshire derby!

After last week’s unfortunate loss on the road, The Silkmen will return to familiar territory with three points on the line and a chance to leapfrog out of the danger zone .

Sol Campbell has an abundance of players to select, with 23-year-old winger Liandro Martis signing on Monday and Brice Ntambwe and Botti Biabi both making debuts last weekend.

Here’s what the manager had to say ahead of this important clash…

The Alex will make the short 20-mile journey to Moss Rose looking to make it four wins on the bounce, but will be aware that the Silkmen have lost just once on home soil since early November.

At Christmas, Crewe occupied 18th, but a run of five wins in seven games has propelled them to 11th with 41 points – just three wins away from the play-offs. Now manager David Artell believes the Railwaymen could be on track for a top seven push.

Here’s what Artell said to the Crewe club website ahead of this weekend’s tasty tie…

“The players are always usually upbeat and the spirit is good. They may be down and despondent after a defeat but they could be in a factory plucking chickens and they’ll soon come round.

“We have been heading in the right direction over the last few weeks but they have to keep it going.

“They have got themselves into a better position after six weeks but we want to be in an even better position after the next six.”

A busy crowd is expected at Moss Rose for this eagerly-anticipated derby, so please make sure you arrive early.
