Youth Development Update

28 February 2019

On Monday evening the new MTFC Youth Development programme had yet another impressive evening at Belle Vue Leisure Centre against UCFB.

The Silkmen side including several more debutantes, produced an impressive fight back to come from 3-1 down to take the lead late on 4-3. Goals from Muuze Xzame, Baillie McNeil, Raymond Savi and Ryan Mealing capped off a good team display. All 19 players came out with great credit, with Man of the Match going to midfielder Josh Clegg.

The game formed part of an important last few weeks week which included a site visit to Macclesfield College for the Cheshire based players. This, plus games across both Cheshire and Manchester seeing now more than 90 young players aged between 15 and 17 expressing their interest to take part with the Football Club.

We caught up with Youth Development Manager Paul McGuire:

“Lots of works gone on behind the scenes as well as all the matches and training sessions, we’re building something really unique. I’m leaving no stone unturned in not just the recruitment, but also the programme itself in terms of student travel, timetabling, not to mention the training and competitive games programme etc”.

“After our meetings with Macclesfield College, all parties feel overwhelmingly confident that we’re building a football academy programme that will be unrivalled and easily accessible from all players within our catchment area”.

Look out for further updates in the coming weeks.
