On Monday evening the new youth development programme had another fantastic evening at Belle Vue Leisure Centre, which included 25 selected lads playing against a UCFB University Manchester based team.
The young Silkmen side including many debutantes, capped an impressive performance with goals from James (3), Holland, Price and Nicholson. The game formed part of a busy week which included three games across both Cheshire and Manchester allowing more than 60 young players aged between 15 and 17 the chance to take part with the Football Club.
With some exceptional talent on display the intention of the club to build this new self-funded programme is becoming a very interesting prospect, with the aim of helping the club to broaden its reach in the search for new young talent
We caught up with Youth Development Manager Paul McGuire after this important and impressive period:
“We’re getting closer now to establishing our full time football academy which will be run in partnership with Macclesfield college. The college will provide the players with all the support required for them to complete their BTEC Sport Education course with Macclesfield Town FC. We’re also thrilled to also be supported by UCFB and we’ll see their University students help run our football programme”.
“It’s a really exciting time, one which the young players are enjoying and hopefully this will pay off for the club in the future”.
Look out for further updates in the coming weeks.
