Charlotte's Chat

31 December 2019

Sunday saw us on the road for our next Sky Bet League Twoencounter against Forest Green Rovers our last on 2019. The trip down to Nailsworth saw us boarding the coach bleary eyed but full of hope for what the game would bring.

I remember the trip to Forest Green last season and I can honestly say I’m so glad I didn’t have to walk to the ground nestled on top of that very steep hill!

The team news was announced and the core of the team remains the same giving me faith that we could build on our points tally. It was quite warm  considering the time of year until we got to the ground and then the temperature dropped.

But I soon found myself warming up as I watch our team go through their pre-match warm ups. It was really good to see so many familiar faces on the terraces alongside me considering it was a Sunday game over the festive period.

The minutes ticked down to kick off and despite the coolness of the afternoon I couldn’t help but feel warmed by the pre-match butterfly’s that had suddenly arrived. The teams made their way onto the pitch, pre-match formalities undertaken and then the game kicked off.

From the opening exchanges the game appeared to be a true battle. Rovers had the greater possession but Macclesfield definitely had the better chances in the opening minutes. The momentum changed hands many time in a competitive first half and saw us go in to the break all square.

The second half kicked off and saw Rovers making the first of the changes in the second half. The second half battle once again went back and forth with Rovers possibly edging it at times. However it took a set piece for them to finally break down the Macclesfield defence who had blocked everything thrown at them until the 74th minute when they  devastatingly scored the only goal of the game.

In the 81st minutes all 130 Macclesfield fans in attendance saw one of our long standing stalwarts make their 200thappearance for us!

Congratulations David Fitzpatrick!

We may not have left Nailsworth with any points but despite this I was proud of the battling display on show from our team.

Now it’s time to look forward to our encounter against  The Valiants at Vale Park on New Year’s Day!

Hope to see you all there!
