Boxing Day saw us entertaining Grimsby Town, as both teams looked to give their fans one more present this festive season.
As we left the house the team news was announced and the pre-match butterfly’s arrived. Once again we remain largely unchanged and so I was confident that we would get a result.
I took my place on the Star Lane End with my programme - congratulations Robert on a very festive Silkmen front cover, it was brilliant!
It was fantastic to hear Andy back on the P.A as well for the game. It was great how he got everyone right behind the team before the game.
Then finally it was time or kick-off, the visitors attacking towards us the first half. It’s was scrappy affair to start with, as both team tried to get the upper hand and saw both Silkmen and Mariners hitting the woodwork during the first 45 minutes.
The second half saw Joe Ironside replace David Fitzpatrick. It turned out to be an inspired substitution from Darryl as moments later Joe made himself a nuisance and was tripped in the area giving us a penalty. Joe took this himself without hesitation and slotted it into the back of the net.
Following this Grimsby hit the woodwork once again and sadly found their equaliser in the 58th minute.
This was how the game finished and although it was not the most attractive of games, the team all dug in and claimed a point despite everything that is been thrown at them.
It was a dull, drizzly day - which seemed to match many of our moods following the events at our beloved club recently. Despite this, we defiantly stood together and got behind the players - because this is our town, our club and our team!
See you at Forest Green on Sunday!
