Silkmen manager Sol Campbell lavished praise on his side's solid defensive display, after they kept a clean sheet on a comfortable afternoon against Leyton Orient.
Macc ran out 3 - 0 winners but the manager made sure that his sides defensive efforts did not go unnoticed.
“I think the whole back three were fantastic, they all played really well. They managed to keep Leyton Orient quiet who have dangerous players at the front.”
“If you give them too much space, they can use it very well. I made sure the lads knew to lock them down, especially when we were attacking in case of a turnover where they might look for an out ball.”
“Everybody played well, it was a really good performance. We can use this as a benchmark as to how good we can play; we might not always play to this level, but we can certainly aim for it to help us progress.”
Macc goalkeeper Owen Evans made several stunning saves shortly after the break to keep his side in the ascendency, and Campbell praised the loanee’s heroics to help get the win over the line.
“It’s wonderful to have a keeper of that calibre. It was at tight point in the game and he makes a great save to keep it at 1-0.”
“You always need a top keeper to help you out with special saves and to produce those game winning moments. He’s a great lad and is still learning, so were happy to have him from Wigan.”
Another new signing in Theo Archibald opened the scoring with a sensational strike, and the manger commented on how the players are putting in the extra hours on the training pitch.
“Theo has been practising his shooting. I’ve told him to slow down in those attacking scenarios because he had two chances last week where he fluffed his lines and shanked the ball.”
“This time he connected well but I don’t think any keeper in the world would save that, it had so much dip and swerve at the last second.”
“All of the players are beginning to gel, they really want to prove to themselves, Macclesfield fans and everybody that they are good players that are willing to work hard.”
