Head Coach Daryl McMahon admitted that he has been enjoying his short time at Macc so far; but is eager to move on from Tuesday’s home defeat to Morecambe as we welcome Scunthorpe United to the Moss this afternoon.
“I am enjoying it, really enjoying it. It has been an exciting week, and we are looking forward to the game tomorrow now.
“I think I have said a few times now that we have got some really exciting young players who are really hungry to learn and it’s been really good for them on the training ground this week."
Despite falling to defeat in his opening match, Daryl has now had some time to work with the squad and is hopeful that we can learn from Tuesday’s defeat and put things right against The Iron.
“We have been through the game from Tuesday night. What we did well and what we didn’t do so well.
“We had 60% possession of the ball on Tuesday night, which is very high for this league; and now it’s about turning the ball into goals and into better chances. We have been working on that this week.
“Like I said on Tuesday, across the season we will have bumps in the ride because of the age of the squad there is going to be errors, there is going to be mistakes made by everyone.
“What is important is that we keep to our beliefs, keep playing, keep trusting in the young players and keep improving.”
Our visitors have endured a difficult start to the season, picking up one draw and three defeats to date, but Daryl is aware of the threat they pose having just been relegated from Sky Bet League One.
“They have got an experienced manager and some very experienced players .
“They have recruited a lot of good players this summer and I’m sure by the end of the season, they will be a team in and around the top of the division.
“But it’s about what we do. Scunthorpe is someone else’s problem and mine is Macclesfield - we have to be ready to do what we want to do tomorrow.”
Daryl was also quick to mention the importance that the Silkmen faithful can have on the game and is hoping to see you all play your part once more this afternoon.
“Hopefully they will be as noisy as they were on Tuesday night. They were terrific for us, hopefully we can give them a goal to cheer and a win!"
