After his side’s 1-0 victory over Scunthorpe United on Saturday afternoon, Joe Ironside noted how important it was that Macclesfield bounced back after defeat to Morecambe last Tuesday.
“It was a good performance on Tuesday but we didn’t come away with any points, so today we had to bounce back, get all three points and a clean sheet.
"In the first-half, we weren’t really at it so we needed a big second-half. Everyone upped their intensity and we’ve come away with a win, so that’s the main thing.”
The striker scored the only goal of the game on Saturday, coolly converting a penalty in the 54th minute, after Corey O'Keeffe was brought down.
“I made sure that I took it and I’m happy it went in. I practise penalties a lot and it’s gone into the bottom corner nicely.
"It gives me a lot of confidence because as a striker you want to score goals. I hadn’t scored before for my new club yet, so it was a big relief to get off the mark.
"It didn’t matter whether it was from thirty yards, from the penalty spot or from two yards, I’m just happy to get on the score sheet.”
The crowd at Moss Rose gave the Silkmen a great reception and Ironside said how good they’ve been since he joined the club.
“Since I’ve been here they’ve been brilliant and it’s good to send them home on the Saturday, giving them the three points.”
Macclesfield now sit 4th in the league standings and up next, is a League Cup encounter away to Grimsby Town on Tuesday evening.
“It’s all about getting into the hat for the next round so we’ll just look at that, try and implement our game plan and go from there”.
