Saturday proved to be a warm, sunny day - perfect for a Bank Holiday weekend. It was rather hot for football and lots of water breaks were definitely needed!
The Iron of Scunthorpe United were our opponents for this encounter and it proved to be another tough one as we looked to bounce back from our unfortunate defeat earlier in the week.
The teams were announced just as we left the car to walk down to the ground it remains mostly unchanged, despite this and the good team performances, I can’t help feeling a little nervous.
I looked around the ground and the crowd looks a little smaller than usual, but unsurprisingly there is still a good atmosphere in the stands.
We kicked-off and we’re attacking the goal towards the Iron fans for the first half. Ben Stephens had a simple shot saved in the first minute.
Despite this it was the Irons who settled first unfortunately, surprisingly Macclesfield looking a little disjointed. In the 41st minute Scunthorpe took a shot on goal which smashed of the underside of the crossbar and was finally cleared by our boys in blue. Macc were fortunate to go in at the break 0-0.
The second half kicked off and we’re are attacking The Star Lane End the team look a little more dangerous during this period. Corey O’Keefe was bundled over in the area resulting in a Macc penalty. This was coolly slotted home by Joe Ironside despite the scorching temperatures to put us 1 - 0 up.
The nerve wracking tussle continued on the pitch, on the 67th minute Macc would have settled those nerves if it hadn’t been for a spectacular double save by the visiting 'keeper from Joe Ironside and the Emmanuel Osadebe.
The game played out 1-0 Macclesfield and although not the best collective team performance so far of the season, it is another three points in the bag in what were exhausting conditions!
Now onto Grimsby this evening!
