Owen: "It Was A Great Battle”

15 August 2019

Silkmen 'keeper Owen Evans was in fine form against Blackpool in the Carabao Cup, as he saved two penalties and scored the winner to send the Macc through to the next round.

“I’m over the moon, and just overall really pleased. The way the lads worked and how they played was just tremendous, all credit to them.”

We went on to ask Owen how even he thought both teams were on the night –

“I think it was a tale of two halves really, we were unfortunate to go behind first and then in the second half Blackpool were on top. I think it was a great battle and we were looking forward to it going in and I think we lived up to the expectations.”

Owen then went onto to tell his thoughts on the fantastic away support on the night –

“You heard them all game from the start to finish and to travel up here on a Tuesday night is really commendable. We really appreciate the support.”

Evans expressed his delight with Virgil Gomis goal that put Macc up late in the second half –

“It was a great strike and when he came on, he changed the game with his work rate and his speed over the top. He deserved the goal.”

“I go with my gut and it paid off tonight… I’m always confident taking a penalty, I told the gaffer that I’d volunteer and thankfully it went in and it helped out the team.”

Finally, we asked Owen about the second-round draw against Grimsby Town –

“I think it’ll be another good test; they are in our league and it’s a good chance for us to progress further and try and get an even bigger team.”
