Ahead of this weekend’s eagerly anticipated trip to face Forest Green Rovers, we take a look at all of our previous visits to face The Green Devils.
Macc first faced Forest Green in the 2001/2002 FA Cup First Round, where a two-all draw at the Moss Rose was followed by an epic replay where Macc prevailed after a record breaking penalty shootout.
In addition to this, Macc have made five trips to The New Lawn as the two sides contested National League fixtures.
The first of these occurred back in December 2012 where a first half strike by Waide Fairhurst gave Macc a share of the spoils in a one all draw.
The following season the visitors went one better and took maximum points with a dramatic last gasp winner.
Former Silkman Matthew Barnes-Homer defied the jeers from the away end, as he struck to give Forest Green an early lead, yet Steve Williams equalised just before the interval.
Danny Whitaker then put the visitors ahead with a sweet strike, yet Yan Klukowski restored parity from the penalty spot after Rhys Taylor brought down James Norwood.
With the match heading for a draw, Danny Andrew swung a pinpoint cross into the area on the stroke of full time and there was Paul Lewis to head the ball home in front of the travelling faithful.
The last three league visits to The New Lawn have resulted in three defeats however, with the first one coming back in April 2015.
In his second spell with the club, Lee Bell’s 24th minute strike proved not to be enough as the hosts run out 3 – 1 winners in a match which saw Jon Parkin score an absolute worldy against his former employers.
Our next trip to face Forest Green came in January 2016 - Jack Sampson gave the visitors the lead on 69 minutes but the hosts recovered to score two late goals and claim victory.
Former Silkman James Jennings grabbed the first, as he latched on to Elliott Frear’s free kick and Charlie Clough completed the fightback during injury time when he fired home from close range.
Macc then suffered a comprehensive 3 – 0 defeat at The New Lawn – goals from Doidge, Noble and Ellis did the damage, as the hosts secured promotion to the Football League for the first time in their history.
The two sides last met in Gloucestershire in November 2017, as the two sides were paired together in the FA Cup First Round yet again.
Christian Doidge was once again on the scoresheet, as his solitary 42nd minute strike proved to be the difference between the two teams.
All this means that our complete record at The New Lawn is -
Played 6. Won 2. Drawn 0. Lost 4.
