Match Preview: Morecambe vs Macclesfield Town

21 September 2018

Macclesfield Town travel to The Globe Arena tomorrow to face Morecambe, with The Silkmen intent on securing our first victory of the season.

The Shrimps sit one place above Mark Yates' side in the Sky Bet League Two table, with the Lancashire outfit no doubt looking to create some breathing space between themselves and the newly promoted Silkmen.

The two sides meet on a similar run of form, with Jim Bentley’s side failing to put any points on the board since Northampton Town were beaten by one goal to nil last month.

We will travel over to The Globe Arena full of confidence and determined to give our loyal fans something to cheer about come 17:00 tomorrow.

So, here’s everything you need to know ahead of the clash.

Team News

Long term absentees Jordan Ponticelli, Ryan Lloyd and Elliott Durrell are all out of the fixture as they continue the respective rehabilitation programmes, whilst Ben Stephens is edging ever closer to a First-Team return.

Meanwhile The Shrimps summer signing Andrew Tutte has still yet to play for the Lancashire side following his move from relegated Bury and the 27-year-old midfielder looks to be a doubt for the weekends enthralling fixture.

Other than that, Manager Jim Bentley should have a fully fit squad to choose from.

Last Time Out – Morecambe 1-0 Macclesfield Town

Morecambe earned a crucial victory against The Silkmen last time out, to condemn Gary Simpson’s Macclesfield side  to a 1-0 defeat six years ago.

Leeds born striker Danny Carlton got the vital goal on the day as The Shrimps took all three points as Morecambe went on to achieve a 15th place league finish that season.

One To Watch – AJ Leitch-Smith

Prolific striker AJ Leitch-Smith will no doubt prove to be a strong test for the Silkmen back-line tomorrow, with the Morecambe striker a product of the famed Crewe Alexandra academy.

His keen eye for goal earned the former Shrewsbury Town man his first team debut for the Alex in 2008, aged just 18.

After an impressive period in Cheshire where he scored 19 goals in 103 appearances, Yeovil Town came calling, via loan spells at Halifax Town, Curzon Ashton and iBV of Iceland among others.

Following his time at Huish Park the 28-year-old forward has represented Port Vale, Shrewsbury Town and Dundee before signing at The Globe Arena in the summer.

Leitch-Smith has  one goal to his tally this season – that being the winning goal in Morecambe’s only victory so far this season when they beat Northampton Town 1-0 at The Globe Arena in August.
