Andy Worth provides an update on Danny's testimonial year -
The incredibly popular Silkmen legend that is Danny Whitaker is in his 11th year at the club, and is a hugely deserving recipient of a testimonial year. As a consequence, a six person committee has been formed and consists of the following people:
Andy Worth: Chairperson
Marie Grundy: Secretary
Robert Stirling: Treasurer
Dean Holmes: Committee Member
Sean Worth: Committee Member
Andy Scott: Committee Member
Co-ordination of a testimonial season is not an easy task these days and involves lots of proverbial ‘hoops’ to go through. This includes formally liaising with the club, the EFL and the PFA; having recorded minutes that require a specific agenda, and setting up a bank account with several signatories that is open to audit. The first formal meeting has been held, and the next is planned for early October 2018.
The aim of this testimonial year for Danny is to raise as much as money for him as we can, and we have set ourselves an ambitious target of 25,000 pounds which would be fantastic. If we could better this, then that would be amazing, but we require you, our fabulous Silkmen brethren to support these events to the max, and raise as much money as we can for Danny who is arguably one of the most popular Silkmen players of all time. We, the committee, intend to do our bit in organising a range of events to maximise income for Danny during his testimonial season but we need YOU to help us achieve our target, and hopefully much more. A number of events have already been pencilled in which include a gala dinner, race night that includes a three course meal and Q&A with Danny; a golf day, and of course the testimonial game itself.
The first of these events is a gala dinner which will be held on Thursday 25th October 2018 from 7p.m. until late! The dinner is to be held within the picturesque surroundings of Mottram Hall within the elegant St. Andrews Suite. The cost for the evening is 50 pounds per person and will include a sumptuous meal, after which there will be entetainment from award winning comedian Gary Marshall, who has built a reputation as one of the most sought after comics on the after dinner circuit. The entertainment will be coordinated by brilliant Master of Ceremonies Andy Powell whose consummate professionalism interspersed with a great blend of humour and style makes him a popular choice for a range of events. There will also be an auction and raffle on the night with the intention of starting off Danny’s testimonial year with a shed load of money into the testimonial coffers.
We anticipate that there will be a phenomenal amount of interest in this event, so in order to register your interest please email me at Gmacworth@aol.com by Friday 5th October 2018, with payment due by Wednesday 10th October 2018. Details of dates of the other events will be outlined very soon, and we will of course keep everyone clearly updated as to what is happening and when, on behalf of someone who is genuinely one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. It’s now time for us as supporters to give something back to a player who has given so much for our beloved Silkmen.
Let’s do it for Danny and make his testimonial year a truly memorable one for this wonderful young man!
