Project 21: Macclesfield Town 4 v 0 Newton Athletic

9 September 2018

Macclesfield Town Under 18s were in rampant mood this afternoon, as they secured an impressive 4 - 0 victory over Newton Athletic in their season opener.

Jim Hall's side dominated right from the off and with just five minutes on the clock Sam Jordan forced the visiting 'keeper into a phenomenal save at his near post as the hosts stamped their authority on the game.

Three minutes later Sam Box burst through the Newton defence, before confidently rounding the 'keeper - only to see his goalbound effort desperately cleared off the line.

Macc were spraying the ball around the hallowed Moss Rose turf with confidence and creativity and for much of the time our shell-shocked visitors had no answer to respond with.

The deadlock was broken after 18 minutes, when James Madzira magically turned on the right-hand touchline, before storming towards goal and firing home from close range.

Despite taking the lead, the host's dominance did not waver as Jordan and Dolling both went close before our advantage was doubled just after the half hour mark.

Mohammed Duran pristinely controlled a long ball into the Newton penalty area and with the 'keeper advancing, elegantly slipped the ball past him into the empty net to put the Macc youngsters two up.

The pressure applied to the Newton goal unrelentingly continued and as the blue shirts swarmed forward their intricate, expansive football captivated all those who had come in support of the new side.

Three minutes after the interval Jordan got his reward for another devastating performance, as his twenty yard free-kick ascended over the Newton wall and dipped perfectly under the crossbar for our third goal.

Less than sixty seconds later our lead was enhanced once more, as Jake Hall's tantalising free-kick was latched onto by Freddie Sass and he majestically volleyed home from ten yards out.

Newton did come into the game more during the latter stages, yet the defiant Tom Kerr and Neeki Arkian repelled any danger with conviction and authority.

Sass could well have grabbed his second of the game late on, as he headed Kane Nolan's cross from the right agonisingly over the bar - yet the comprehensive nature of this afternoon's victory exemplifies the belief that the youngsters are set for an exciting season ahead.

Here are the thoughts of Manager Jim Hall and Defender Tom Kerr following the game -

Macclesfield Town: Parkinson, Madzira, Nolan, Midgeley, Kerr, Phillips, Richardson, Duran, Dolling, Box, Jordan.

Subs: Arkian, Ezzedine, Hall, Reynolds, Sass.
