Mark Yates Looks Ahead To The Cheshire Derby

1 September 2018

Mark Yates has issued a rallying call to his side ahead of our Cheshire Derby away at Crewe Alexandra saying that “We’ve got to be up for it”.

A large number of travelling supporters are set to make the 46-mile round trip to Gresty Road and there is no doubt that there will be an electric atmosphere during the game.

The Silkmen will be buoyed by a terrific result in midweek against Walsall in the Carabao Cup and Yates’ men will be hoping for more of the same as Macc look to pick up their first three points of the season.

Speaking to www.mtfc.co.uk earlier in the week, Yates emphasised that the players need to keep up their performance levels.

We’ve got to be up for it,” said Yates.

“It’s a local derby and I want another performance like we’ve had in the last 3 or 4 games in particular.

“The effort and application the players have put in is brilliant, but we’ve got to cut out some mistakes we’ve been making and start being more ruthless.

There were lots of pleasing things from Tuesday night’s cup win at Walsall and we want to carry that through on Saturday.

“Every game is important for us and none of them are easy but if we turn up with the right attitude, right work ethic and make the right decisions on the pitch then  we can get a result.

“The supporters have been great, so hopefully they can get behind the boys and we can give you three points to take home.”

Yates also commented on the Carabao Cup Third Round draw. A trip to face West Ham United at the London Stadium awaits Macclesfield and Yates says the team want to make the club proud.

“It’s a good draw for us with us getting one of the Premier League teams away from home and it's good in a sense that it’ll be a great experience for us but we will take it very seriously and try and do ourselves justice.

“We want to put a good performance in and try and get something from it but also put a performance in that makes us proud and make the supporters proud.”
