Peter: "Win Gives Us Confidence"

22 October 2018

After scoring the winning goal against Carlisle on Saturday, Peter Vincenti spoke of the confidence that it will give the lads going forward and thanked the fans for sticking with the team during the challenging start to the season.

The Silkmen recorded their first victory of their Sky Bet League Two campaign with victory over Carlisle, but Peter admitted it took a lot from the team to turn the game around having gone behind early in the second half.

“I thought we recovered really well, on the game as a whole to go 1-0 down in the position we’re in where confidence is inevitably a bit low and there’s a little bit of desperation at times, the boys to be fair to them kept plugging away and kept going.

“I thought second half we dominated the game and then obviously we got the penalty to make it 1-1 and from that point I thought there was only going to be one team to win it and luckily it didn’t go against us like it has done in a lot of the games and we got the winning goal, so it was great.

“Obviously it’s been a long time coming and when a run goes on that long you are just desperate for the win so to get it today and to go 1-0 down and turn the game around makes it a little bit nicer actually. So yeah, there’s a good feeling at the minute.”

On a personal note, Peter’s winner was his first league goal for The Silkmen and he was delighted to get off the mark.

“It’s nice to get myself off the mark, that’s what you want to do, you want to contribute, and all the lads here want to contribute to victories and do well for the club.

“At times we’ve not been good enough and we know that, it’s been below standards at times but at other times I’ve never known so much bad luck for one team.

“So, it’s just nice to contribute to a win and hopefully we can take this onto Tuesday and get another three points.”

Peter also thanked the fans for sticking with the team through the challenging start to the season and is confident that with their continued support, the club can build on the victory going forward.

“The fans have been brilliant every game with us to tell you the truth, it’s been tough for them as well, away from home they have been great and today there was a really good atmosphere around the ground.

“If they can stick with us like that hopefully we can keep putting in the right performances and get more wins.”

With Northampton Town to come on Tuesday night at the Moss Rose, Peter insisted that with the right preparation, there is no reason why the team can’t make it back to back wins with victory against The Cobblers.

“It’s a quick turnaround so we’ve got to prepare right and after the rest day tomorrow we will get ourselves going again and come back in to the match prep on Monday, do our homework on Northampton and hopefully go into the game with a bit more confidence now.”
