Match Preview: Macclesfield Town v Northampton Town

23 October 2018

After last Saturday's inspiring victory over Carlisle United on Saturday, Macclesfield Town return to the Moss Rose this evening for our next Sky Bet League Two battle.

Danny and Neil's side defiantly fought back from being a goal down on Saturday and that fighting spirit will be tested once again tonight as Keith Curle's Northampton Town side make the journey up to the Moss.
There is little doubt that this team are giving there all to ascend up the League Two table and this was exemplified by the emotionally charged scenes which were on view at the end of Saturday's clash.
This battle means everything to each and every one of us and we must re-create the famous siege mentality which has served us so well in the past if we are to succeed.
Saturday's victory was about more than the three points, it sent a statement out that no matter how much the odds are stacked against us we will fight with everything we have. Looking at the player's faces at the final whistle and the passion fuelled chants coming from the terraces, there is little doubt that our magical defiance is returning once again.
We must leave everything out there on the hallowed Moss Rose pitch this evening - every player and every fan - if we do then there is no reason why we can't be celebrating consecutive victories come the end of the night.
Should this happen, then The Silkmen could rise above the League Two relegation zone - dependent on the results of other games being played this evening.
One man who clearly epitomises our fighting spirit is Joint Assistant Manager Danny Whitaker and he previewed the game by speaking to Silkmen TV yesterday.
Here are Danny's thoughts -

Other than long term injury victims Elliott Durrell, Danny Whitaker, Callum Evans and Ryan Lloyd, Macc have no fresh concerns to deal with after last Satuday's game.
Our Champion quartet are itching to get back in action, with each one expected to be back available for selection over the coming weeks.
Northampton currently lie in nineteenth position, having accumulated eleven points from their opening fourteen matches.
The Cobblers come into the game having suffered a 1 - 0 victory at the hands of MK Dons on Saturday. Kieran Agard's first half strike proved to be the difference between the two sides, although Keith Curle's side did produce a spirited second half showing with Billy Waters orchestrating the midfield throughout.
Northampton have contested seven Sky Bet League Two fixtures away from Sixfields this season - with their only victory coming on 25th August when strikes from Matt Crooks and Billy Waters sealed a 2 - 1 win at Colchester United.
The spoils have been shared at Carlisle United and Swindon Town and defeats suffered at Morecambe, Mansfield, Port Vale and Milton Keynes Dons respectively.
Speaking ahead of the game, Cobblers Manager Keith Curle stated -
“Macclesfield will be a challenge and I think this whole season is going to be about challenges,” he told the Northampton official site..
“They are fighting for their lives, they got a monkey off their back on Saturday and they will be looking to build on that.
“I put pressure and demands on my team to perform and we need to make sure we have the right mindset.
“We are in a learning industry; there are always areas we think we can improve both individually and collectively."

Northampton lasted visited the Moss Rose in September 2011, where a brace from Ben Tomlinson coupled with a Colin Daniel strike helped to secure a 3 - 1 victory for Gary Simpson's side.

With the lure of Champions League football on the television this evening, we would ask all our fans to switch the box off and come down to the Moss Rose for tonight's crucial League Two fixture.

Your support really does make a difference and we need as many people as possible stood together with us this evening, as we look to take another massive step in this enthralling battle.
