Ryan Lloyd made his eagerly anticipated return to match action this evening, as Macclesfield Town progressed to the next round of the Cheshire Senior Cup with a 3 - 0 victory against Cheadle Heath Nomads.
Jim Hall took charge of a strong Silkmen side which included six First Team players, interspersed with members of the Under 18s side and they made all the running in the opening exchanges as they attempted to break down a tenacious Cheadle outfit.
Lloyd orchestrated the midfield for much of the first half and was unlucky to see his low drive from twenty-five yards fly marginally wide after just two minutes.
Four minutes later Richard Tindall almost broke the deadlock, when he was agonisingly close to connecting with Leon Grandison's tantalising cross from the right and for a time it was the visitors who claimed the ascendancy.
Macc were to take the lead in the 14th minute however, when Scott Wilson latched on to an innovative through ball by Tyrone Marsh and last year's leading scorer made no mistake in rounding the Cheadle 'keeper before confidently slotting the ball home.
Five minutes later and the lead was doubled, as Lloyd stormed through the Cheadle ranks before unleashing Koby Arthur and he fired the ball past Aaron Tyrer for number two.
Tindall continued to pose an unquestionable threat to the Macc rearguard and only a string of fine saves from Luke Simpson denied him reducing the arrears.
The visitors gallantly looked to force themselves back into the game after the interval, with Kirby, Grandson and Tindall all coming close, yet the game was to end as a contest a minute from time when Joe Cobey's magical run ended with him being upended in the penalty area.
Cobey took the resultant spot kick himself and confidently despatched the ball past Tyrer to seal victory for The Silkmen and confirm our place in the First Round draw.
