Danny's Testimonial Season Gets Off To A Spectacular Start.

26 October 2018

Mottram Hall's picturesque St Andrew's Suite was packed to the rafters last night, as fans gathered to pay tribute to Danny Whitaker as part of his Testimonial Gala Dinner.

The event was the first to be staged by Danny's Testimonial Committee and it was one which will forever live in the memory of everyone who attended.

As well as a number of distinguished guests from the local community, members of our glorious title winning squad of last season reunited for the special evening - as well as Silkmen stars of yesteryear.

After a luxurious three course meal, centre stage was given to the Guest of Honour - former Manchester United Chairman Martin Edwards.

Martin conducted an incredibly illuminating interview about his time at Old Trafford with Angus Loughran - who many of you will remember as cult hero Statto from the nineties television show "Fantasy Football League".

After answering numerous questions from the floor, Martin made way for us all to be taken on a walk down Memory Lane with a pictorial synopsis of Danny's career to date.

Starting from Danny's early years with Wilmslow Albion, the photographic journey covered his Youth Team successes with Macclesfield Town, his debut against Exeter City in 2002, all the way through to last year's incredible promotion winning season.

Comedian Gary Marshall then had his audience in raptures, before Danny posed for photographs together with his lovely family on the top table.

Throughout the night, there were numerous fundraising activities interspersed with the entertainment - with a plethora of wonderful prizes on offer.

Ultimately though, everyone who attended did so for Danny and it was undoubtedly an spectacular occasion which befitted a man who has represented our Football Club with such professionalism for so many years.

Danny brought proceedings to an end by thanking everyone present and reaffirming how much Macclesfield Town means to him. He received a standing ovation, as fans passionately sung his name into the night.

Testimonial Committee Chairman Andy Worth stated -

"Last night's Gala Dinner will be remembered by everyone as a magnificent way to honour Danny and the contribution he has made to our club for many, many years.

"We would like to thank everyone who supported it so willingly and it certainly proved to be an incredible way to raise the curtain on Danny's testimonial season as a whole"
