Macclesfield Town are pleased to announce that Paul McGuire has taken on the role of the club's Youth Development Manager, with the aim of setting up a system that can attract some of the best talent from around the North West.
Initially Paul plans to establish an Under 15 / Under 16 Elite Development Squad, who will play their home matches as floodlit games at the Moss Rose against other professional clubs and top level academy teams.
This should prove to be a unique experience playing under the lights on a great quality Football League pitch.
Paul will also help bring the Project 21 programme within the Elite Development Squad structure.
“This is a really positive development for both myself and the Football Club. The club have shown a real desire and commitment to create new channels in order to recruit quality young players.
"It’s a role that I am relishing and hopefully it can bear fruit for the First Team over the coming seasons.
"It will take a bit of time to re-establish ourselves, but before long young players and parents alike will once again recognise Macclesfield Town as a very good option for their son's development”.
Paul initially joined the club back in 2001/02 season and worked as part of the successful Centre of Excellence under then Centre Manager Mick Holgate.
In 2005 he became Football in the Community Manager and has been within the role ever since.
During our first spell in the EFL, Paul utilised the club's Football League education funding and underwent his UEFA B coaching badge, going on to achieve his UEFA A coaching licence in 2011.
A former professional player with Morecambe FC, injury forced Paul to retire early which allowed him to focus on his coaching career.
Paul has managed Radcliffe Borough FC, Stalybridge Celtic FC Reserves and has been involved with a host of football programmes and clubs across the North West.
He has also previously managed Macclesfield Town Under 13s, Under 14s and Under 18s in the FA Youth Cup and North West Youth Alliance League.
We all wish Paul every success with this new role and look forward to updates throughout the season.
