Match Preview: Macclesfield Town v West Bromwich Albion

13 November 2018

Macclesfield Town are back in Checkatrade Trophy action this evening, as West Bromwich Albion's youngsters provide the opposition for our final group stage fixture.

A win for either side will be enough to secure their passage into the next round of the competition and The Silkmen will be looking to bounce back from Saturday's Emirates FA Cup defeat at Maidstone at the first attempt.

Danny and Neil are looking for the players to convince them that they are worthy of the shirt going forward and tonight's test gives those selected an opportunity to stake their claim to a regular slot within the starting line-up.

Callum Evans may well play some part in this evening's proceedings as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury, although it is thought that the game will come just a little bit too soon for Danny Whitaker who steps up his rehabilitation from a knee injury.

Elliott Durrell also may well play a part tonight, after he made his First Team return at Maidstone last Saturday.

The Baggies currently sit second in the Checkatrade Trophy group, having accumulated three points from their opening two fixtures.

They claimed their first ever Checkatrade victory in what represents their third season in the competition last month, as they secured a 2 - 1 away victory against Blackpool.

Oliver Burke showed a deft turn of pace down the right hand side, before his tantalising cross was finished by Finn Azaz to open the scoring at the back post.

The Seasiders restored parity on the stroke of half time through a Steve Davies strike, yet Alex Bradley handed The Baggies maximum points with an emphatic finish fourteen minutes from time.

Ross Sykes' injury time winner for Accrington Stanley last week sets tonight's clash up perfectly - as both sides know that a win will see them progress to the next round.
