We take a look back at some memorable clashes between us and Dover.
There are only ten games left in this season's Vanarama National League campaign and John Askey's men have the cliché of ten cup finals to go!
The first game in the run-in see's the Silkmen travel down south to Dover Athletic. So, in the build-up to another tricky fixture, we take a trip down memory lane and look at five classic clashes between the two sides.
Dover 0-1 Macclesfield – 13th September 2014/15
It was a happy trip back to Cheshire for Macclesfield after this game. Chris Holroyd was the match winner on this occasion with his brilliant volley. The game was goalless at Crabble until the 77th minute when Holroyd produced a moment of magic. The ball was won in midfield and it bounced over Holroyd and his marker, the striker then turned and hit a sweetly struck volley into the net leaving Dover goalkeeper Mitch Walker with no chance.
Macclesfield 1-0 Dover – 18th October 2014/15
Once again, it was a single goal that separated the two teams in the 2014/15 season. This time around, Paul Lewis was the hero as his strike separated the two teams. The midfielder latched onto Chris Holroyd's pass on 66 minutes and finished past the goalkeeper from a tight angle to give Macc all three points.
Macclesfield 2-1 Dover – 10th January 2016/17
Chris Holroyd was at the double on this occasion for the Silkmen as Macc battled back from behind to beat Saturday's rivals at the Moss.
Jamie Grimes had given Dover the lead on 8 minutes with his looming header but in the second half Holroyd stole the show. On 69 minutes he levelled the scoring, Danny Whitaker sent the ball into the box and Holroyd's clever finish sent the ball past Steve Arnold.
Then just six minutes after, the striker beat the Dover offside trap and duly placed the ball past the goalkeeper to give Macc all three points.
Dover 2-2 Macclesfield – 25th April 2016/17
In an end to end game at Crabble, Macc travelled back to Cheshire with a solitary point but only after the Silkmen had taken the lead twice.
Ollie Norburn opened the scoring on 32 minutes for Macc but eight minutes later Dover were level via a Ricky Miller penalty.
However, in the second half Anthony Dudley put the Silkmen back ahead but it wasn't enough for John Askey's side as Ross Lafayette's strike three minutes from time meant that the spoils were shared on this occasion.
Macclesfield 1-0 Dover – 25th August 2017/18
Tyrone Marsh was the hero in our clash at the Moss Rose earlier this season. The forward was playing against Dover for the very first time since he left the club and his goal on 49 minutes proved to be decisive in the game.
Elliott Durrell's cross found Marsh at the back post and the forward's diving header sent the ball into the net to cap off a brilliant team move.
