It has not taken Miles Welch-Hayes long to settle in to Moss Rose. The full-back has started pre-season well with impressive performances against the likes of Burnley and Wrexham and his good form will be something he’ll want to bring into our final friendly against Stockport.
The full-back was one of the first signings of the summer and will face a fierce battle with Jared Hodgkiss and David Fitzpatrick for a place in the starting eleven..
However, he’s played a more advanced role on the wing in pre-season - proving to be a versatile asset to Mark Yates’ squad and he believes that the squad is coming together nicely on and off the pitch.
After our 1-1 draw with Wrexham, Welch-Hayes spoke to www.mtfc.co.uk about the mood within the camp.
“That’s my first 90 minutes and I’m feeling fit.” said Miles.
“We’ve done a lot of running in training and it’s been hard, but it’s definitely paid off.
“I think our togetherness as a team is really good. We’ve worked on a lot of things in training and as we’re getting to know each other more we are bringing it into our games - it's all coming together.
Even though its pre-season we want to win every game.
“We’re here as a team, but for me personally it would be good to cement a place in the starting eleven for our opening game against Swindon and everyone is trying their hardest to impress the gaffer.”
Harry Smith continued his fantastic pre-season form on Tuesday evening with another goal to cancel out Manny Smith's opener and with more chances falling to various players, Welch-Hayes believes the Silkmen should have won the game -
“It was a tough game. I thought in the first half we started off really well, but I think we died off a little bit towards half-time.
“I think we started to be a little bit sloppy again when we came out for the second half, but then we got back into the game and I think we should have won it in the end.
