27 July 2018

There is little doubt that next week's season opener at Swindon will be a memorable occasion for everyone associated with the Football Club.

Our six year EFL exile will be confined to history, as Mark Yates' side commence what is all set up to be another pulsating journey.

As we look forward to our first home league fixture against Grimsby on 11th August, we decided that we would take a look back at some cherished Football League encounters of yesteryear in our matchday programme.

We have gone through the painstaking task of whittling fifteen years of memories down to ten epic matches and now it is down to you to vote for your favourite!

The games we have chosen are as follows -

Game A - Torquay United (H) 1997/98 - Our first ever game in the Football League saw goals from Efe Sodje and Richard Landon secure an historic victory.

Game B - Chester City (H) 1997/98 - Sammy McIlroy's heroic side secured back to back promotions, after seeing off Cheshire rivals Chester City at the Moss Rose.

Game C - Manchester City (H) 1998/99 - Although The Silkmen were defeated by a late Shaun Goater strike, the match captivated the whole nation as the illustrious Citizens came to the Moss Rose as Division Two equals.

Game D - Rochdale (H) 2002/03 - John Askey signed off in style, as he bagged a late equaliser against Rochdale in his last game for the club. Matthew Tipton's late winner secured what represented a fairytale ending.

Game E - Rochdale (A) 2003/04 - With Macc residing towards the lower echelons of the League Two table, Matthew Tipton's brace eased our relegation fears in what turned out to be a pulsating encounter at Spotland.

Game F - Notts County (A) 2004/05 - A scintillating display from Brian Horton's Silkmen side saw Macc run out 5 - 0 winners at Meadow Lane. Jon "The Beast" Parkin hit a hat-trick that evening and this was added to by Matthew Tipton and Michael Welch strikes.

Game G - Stockport County (H) 2005/06 - A real Christmas cracker, as Macc hit their local rivals for six in a Boxing Day rout.

Game H - Wycombe Wanderers (A) 2005/06 - A truly pulsating encounter which saw Macc edge a nine goal thriller.

Game I - Crewe Alexandra (H) 2009/10 - Goals from Ben Wright, Paul Bolland and Colin Daniel fired Macc into a 3 - 0 lead within the first half hour against our Cheshire neighbours. Ricky Sappleton added to the scoring during second half injury time as Macc claimed an emphatic festive victory.

Game J - Stockport County (A) 2010/11 - A game engraved within the memories of all those present, as Macc ran out 4 -1 winners at Edgeley Park in front of a large and vociferous away following.
