Macclesfield Town secured a fine Central League Cup victory against Fleetwood Town this afternoon, as the fought back from a goal down to register a 3 - 2 win.
The match started in controversial style, as with just three minutes on the clock Koby Arthur burst down the right-hand touchline and delivered a teasing cross which Billy Crelin seemed to have parried into his own goal. Despite vehement protestations, the Referee waved play on however and Macc were denied an early breakthrough.
Gerard Garner and Harrison Biggins then went close for the visitors, before the latter opened the scoring on 21 minutes with a bullet header from close range.
The goal catalysed the hosts, as they looked to restore parity in the quickest time possible. That would come eight minutes before the interval, as the Referee spotted an infringement in the penalty area and Scott Wilson stepped up to confidently despatch the resultant spot kick.
The second half began in emphatic fashion, as just three minutes in Jared Hodgkiss burst down the right hand flank. He then sent a teasing cross into the area and from which Jordan Ponticelli launched a sublime overhead kick which flew into the back of the net. Irrelevant of opposition or competition, the strike was simply world class.
Macc could only hold on to their lead for five minutes however, as Kyle Dempsey hammered home from 25 yards to level the scores once more.
The Silkmen pushed forward for the match-winner and that came when Peter Vincenti fired home a 25 yard free kick with under 15 minutes left on the clock.
The visitors did launch a revival of sorts, yet our defence stood firm to secure what proved to be a fine victory.
