Match Preview: Macclesfield Town vs Scunthorpe United

24 August 2019

Macclesfield Town will play host to Scunthorpe United this afternoon, as Daryl McMahon looks to get off the mark as Silkmen Head Coach.

In our last outing, on Tuesday evening we fell to a narrow 1 - 0 defeat at the hands of Morecambe; and the new man at the helm will be looking for a response against The Iron.

The Silkmen have no injury concerns to contend with and therefore are thought to go into the game with a clean bill of health.

As always, we will really need you all right behind us this afternoon, as we look to continue our promising start to the season.

Scunthorpe also fell to defeat in their last outing, a 3 - 2 loss away at Cambridge United, and find themselves bottom of the Sky Bet League Two table having taken one point from their four matches so far.

Our visitors are yet to pick up a point away from home this campaign with their only point to date coming in a 2 - 2 home draw with Crawley Town.

Scunthorpe also fell to defeat against Derby County in their Carabao Cup First Round tie - meaning they are yet to record a competitive victory so far this campaign.

Scunthorpe captain Andy Butler had this to say ahead of the game:

“Obviously, results haven’t gone for us so far with one draw and three losses, but we’ll take a positive approach and go into Macclesfield looking for three points.

“The games come thick and fast at the beginning of the season. Things have gone against us so far but with a little bit of luck we can hopefully turn that around from Saturday.”

Match Report: Macclesfield Town 1 v 0 Scunthorpe United

24 August 2019

Daryl McMahon secured his first victory as Macclesfield Town Head Coach this afternoon, as The Silkmen defeat Scunthorpe 1 - 0 at the Moss Rose.

Macc came into the game hungry to gain three points after an underserved defeat to Morecambe last Tuesday.

Joe Ironside put the Silkmen up 1 - 0 in the second half with a well-placed penalty into the bottom right corner in which the keeper had no chance of saving. Corey O’Keeffe stormed into the opposition's box and was brought down by the Scunthorpe defender to win the penalty.

Ironside wasclinicially dispatched the penalty and is now under way for the season in terms of the goalscoring charts.

The Silkmen came within whiskers of getting a second in the game, Ironside blasted the ball at the goal but the keeper pulled off a great save which then fell to the feet of Paddy Osadeb - however the 'keeper pulled off a miraculous double save to give the away side slight hope.

The opening ten minutes of the game saw Macclesfield often chasing the ball as a few chances opened up for Scunthorpe, but they didn’t make anything of it.

Ironside came close to scoring in the first half, the ball dropped kindly and our number nine saw his left footed shot expertly saved by Rory Watson the Scunthorpe keeper.

On the other side of the pitch, just before the half time whistle blew George Miller smashed his effort off the crossbar in what was a huge chance for the visitors to go ahead before the break.

The away side came to Moss Rose with just one registered point in the league after defeats to Swindon, Cheltenham and Cambridge and a draw at home to Crawley Town which sees them remain at bottom of League Two.

We now look forward to our next fixture in our League Two campaign. We travel away to Stevenage in an interesting clash on the 31st August after travelling to Grimsby Town in our Carabao Cup Second Round clash on Tuesday evening.
