Youth Team: Shrewsbury 1 Silkmen 0

Posted on: Mon 16 Aug 2010

It was a double take on Saturday as the Youth Team also suffered the same fate as their first team counterparts, losing 1-0 to Shrewsbury Town in a close fought encounter.

The hosts took the lead midway through the first half and despite creating a number of chances, and having two good penalties appeals turned down, the equalising goal could not be found. The Silkmen's cause was not helped when Greg Daniels had to withdraw from the game after the young striker injured his bak in the warm up.

"Perhaps if Greg had played the scoreline might have been different," explained John Askey. "But we created enough chances to have at least taken a point from the game which is why we were disappointed come the final whistle."

"It's early days and Shrewsbury enjoyed a good season last year, so to go to their place and be disappointed not having taken something from the game is hopefully a good sign."

The Silkmen were also missing the services of full back Elliot Hewitt (pictured below), who is still awaiting international clearance from the FA.

Next Fixture

The youngsters take on Wigan Athletic next Saturday (Aug 21) at the Moss Rose - kick off 11am.
