The Youth Team were hit for six at the weekend by Preston North End in their latest North West Youth Alliance.
The Silkmen had no answer to the rampant home side's attacking play, notching up three goals in each half. The tone was set on 16 minutes when keeper Josh Welsby misjudged a corner to present Bailey Wright with a simple tap in.
A flowing move five minutes later presented Scott Davidson with another simple chance and the game was effectively over on 42 minutes when Ryan McGreevy added a third. The Silkmen's only real effort of note came from Greg Daniels who skipped past his marker only to see his curling effort slip agonisingly the wrong side of the upright.
"Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say you've were beaten by the better team," said John Askey. "It's important we bounce back from this with the cup final just around the corner. The lads are playing for places and I'll be expecting a response in our home game with Burnley on Saturday."
