Youth Team in action this afternoon

Posted on: Tue 23 Mar 2010

The Silkmen entertain Stockport County at the Moss Rose this afternoon in the North West Youth Alliance. The game, which is a dress rehearsal for the Area Cup Final next month, kicks-off at 2pm and admission is free for anyone wanting to come along and cheer the lads on.

However with John Askey has stated that for the remainder of the league season he will be looking to use a combination of 1st year scholars and schoolboys as his thoughts focus on next season.

"People shouldn't take too much notice of the result today and for the remainder of the season," explained John. "With a lot of the 2nd year lads getting a run out for the reserves it has given me the opportunity to have a better look at the 1st years and also a few faces we are looking to bring to the club for next season."

"It's actually worked out quite well and we've already made offers to four lads, with five more places to fill."

"But we proved in our last league game at Accrington that we can hold our own. To come back with a 1-0 win shows we've got some good prospects at the club and it bodes well for the future."

The Silkmen's last league game on Saturday succumbed to a waterlogged pitch which means the team is looking at a busy six weeks in the run up to the end of the season. Click here to see the revised fixture list.
