John Askey's young guns took the game to visitors Bury in the opening period of their FA Youth Cup First Round tie at Moss Rose on Tuesday evening.
Going forward with purpose James Askey tested the Bury keeper with a low drive before excellent interplay down the right presented Greg Daniels with a sharp chance in the box but the young striker ,who was leading the line well spurned the chance.
But with Bury getting more possession as the game progressed Greg popped up to make amends with a great strike on 25 minutes. Picking up the ball 30 yards out he spotted Branagan off his line and neatly chipped the keeper to give the Silkmen a deserved lead.
Bury put the Macc defence under more pressure as half time approached but with the home team defending well Josh Welsby was seldom troubled in the Macclesfield goal.
The second half saw the Silkmen continue to dominate the chances as Adam Roberts saw a long shot clipping the outside of the post and he was again close when his volley from Greg Daniels' dangerous cross.
Vinny Mukendi was the next to go close but was his downward header was cleared off the line.
Tom France was next to have the crowd on their feet, taking the ball a full 50 yards down the right flank, beating two defenders before firing just wide of the far post.
Josh Welsby, a virtual spectator for the entire second half was then in action to palm a shot around the post
At the other end, the chances kept coming and Greg Daniels tried another audacious lob, running on to a through-ball and under pressure from the advancing ;keeper, got there first but lifted the ball onto the roof of the net. Vinny Mukendi's mesmerising solo run saw him seemingly intent on beating the entire Bury side, but again shot wide after finding the space to take a shot.
Scott Beckett's long drive was tipped over for a Silkmen corner before the second goal finally arrived. It was another great lob from Greg Daniels who dinked the ball over the 'keeper from 20 yards after another mazy Mukendi run had drawn in defence and 'keeper until he was tackled, with the ball falling to Greg to shoot.
Josh Welsby had to remember he was involved in a game with the game drawing to a close as he got down well to save at the feet of a Bury attacker who was one-on-one with support.
Tom Meachin was given a run out after replacing James Askey, but the full times whistle saw the Silkmen through.
