The Silkmen slipped to a surprisingly defeat away at Chester City on Saturday. It was the youngster's first defeat in four games and came courtesy of the only goal of the game just after the quarter hour mark.
It was a performance that left manager John Askey extremely disappointed.
"I think they scored with their only shot of the ninety minutes," explained John. "But despite huffing and puffing we never really looked like getting anything out of the game. We were devoid of ideas and they were just happy to cling on for the three points."
"We've been inconsistent away from home and that's something we have to work on. Whilst we had the majority of the possession we just couldn't keep hold of the ball up front. So it kept coming back and it was probably our worst performance of the year."
The one bright spot for the manager however was the form of Michael Thomas, who returned to Youth Team action after his recent appearances for the First Team.
"It's easy for young lads, once they have appeared for the first team, to get ideas above their station," said John. "But Michael was spot on for me on Saturday. His attitude was exemplary and he clearly has benefitted from his run out with the first team. I am sure he'll get a few more but that has not stopped him from wanting to play for the youth team."
Starting XI on Saturday
Welsby, Askey, Dukes, Thomas, Moss, France, Beckett, Roberts, Lonsdale, Mukendi, Cook
Midweek Friendly for U17s
The 1st Year scholars will entertain their counterparts from Everton on Tuesday of this week in a friendly at our Egerton training ground.
"It's good for the lads who haven't been getting a run out, to get a game," explained John. "And good for everyone really after the disappointment of the defeat on Saturday. Hopefully we can put in a good performance and get the Chester game out of our minds."
