Youth Alliance Results & Standings

Posted on: Wed 16 Sep 2009

The Silkmen have slipped to mid-table in the North West Youth Alliance following their defeat against Shrewsbury Town at the weekend. After the impressive nature of their win the previous Saturday, the youngsters never really got going and found themselves two-nil down by the hour mark.

Hopes were lifted after Tom France reduced the arrears from the penalty spot with just over ten minutes left to play but the damage had already been done accordingly to boss John Askey.

"We just weren't at the races on Saturday," explained John. "I don't know why and having spoken to the lads they are struggling to explain how they could be a mere shadow of the team that put five past Walsall the previous week."

"The ground at Shrewsbury is very basic and the pitch was rock hard and that could have played a part. But the lads have to quickly realise that you have to deal with these things. Its part of parcel of being a footballer. Some weeks things don't go your way and when that happens you just have to knuckle down and do as best you can."

"We were excellent the previous week but we just never got going against Shrewsbury and that's what disappointed be the most. Even when we scored it never looked like we'd get back on terms. Its up to the lads now to make amends against Wrexham at the Moss Rose this weekend. I'll certainly be looking for a reaction."
