Friday Blog Time
Hello again, more news from a busy week at Macc Town. A frustrating afternoon on Saturday saw us go down 2-1 to Chester, and not wanting to dwell too long on the game I thought we had chances again to get something. I don't like to slag off refs, but saying he had an off day is like saying Jack the Ripper was a little bit naughty... and according to some sites I seem to have been credited with a booking? I can't remember that one; I hope the ref wasn't getting me mixed up with Franny as that would make his career choice even more disturbing.
Anyway a good workman doesn't blame his tools, and we created openings that we should've taken. On the plus side, Izak made his first appearance of the season and backed up his performance with a great game on Tuesday night. Terry scored a peach of a free kick, which has grown from 20 to 40 yards in the space of 5 days in the dressing room....perhaps the only player that doesn't need to be more chirpy around the place now has that goal to brag about...
Another battling performance on Tuesday night saw us come away with a point (yet again) but the lads feel as though we are on the verge of getting it very right. We dominated for large periods of the second half, Tommy had nothing to do for the most part, and it was a weak goal we conceded (yet again).
Knowing what we have to do and doing it are 2 very different things, but we are not lacking in ability or confidence as no team has rolled us over.I was mildly perturbed by Mark Robins' comments that his centre half's legs were 'black and blue' after 'Gritton had his elbows all over the place'. Now it doesn't take a degree in Sport Science (ahem) to realise that I'd have to pull off some Jackie Chan style elbowing to bruise the poor lads legs. Mind you, 'crouching tiger hidden dragon' was on the box the other night and I may have subconsciously pulled off some ninja moves. Or is it more alarming that the 6ft 4 defender felt it necessary to show his boss his bruises? Answers on a postcard.
*Stop press* ...on that last comment actually, after watching Dida against Celtic the other night I can see how someone of that size can be felled with even the lightest of touches. While I cannot condone the fan's actions it did take the Brazilian longer to go down than a queue at Northern Rock, must be all the Irn-Bru us Weegies drink.
Anyway...On to Saturday and with the league as tight as it is we need to get back to winning ways. Chesterfield are coming off the back of a great result so I'm sure they will come at us on their home turf. If we stick to what we have been doing with the ball and be more clinical in front of goal, it should make for a good game.
We need to keep picking up points, as my dad says 'It's a marathon, not a sprint...' although judging by last season it was a sprint finish from Christmas; lets make sure that doesn't happen again. See you next week.
