Introducing the MTFC Blog
Greetings to all the fans who have bothered to take time out of their busy schedules to read the day to day goings on from a players point of view.
You, and the few of my mates who have stopped to have a look should bring the 'hits' up to double figures. Unfortunately those hoping for a footballers' wives style bling blog might be a little disappointed- probably more Benidorm than Las Vegas. Then again how many people would be interested in the weekly episode of how to spend 130 grand a week? It was comforting to know that Frank Lampard grudgingly accepted the contract offer from Chelsea, I don't think I could've slept at night worrying if I was the top paid player or not.
Back to us anyway, as it's been a decent start to the season, if not a little disappointing that we haven't got a win just yet. 3 draws but 3 very different games, 2 of them away to difficult teams and a home game that we should've won from 3-1 up.
Regardless whether MK Dons think we were 'there for the taking', if Franny's shot had gone in off the bar they wouldn't have got back in it. It didn't help that Jude Sterling can throw it as far as he can kick it (he won't mind me saying it, honest) and they had 5 big lads to aim for in the last 20 minutes, but we were playing Wimbledon (technically), so when in Rome....
It was good to bring a point back from Grimsby after the amount of chances they had, and pleasing to get a goal against one of my former clubs. After choosing not to celebrate it out of respect I was described, by GTFC website Cod Almighty, as 'just too lazy to raise his arm and run'.... you just can't please some people. Then again it was a hot day. And it was only a tap in. But lazy is a bit harsh.
Franny was unlucky not to nick a winner at the death, and his form in the other 2 games has been class. Some credit might be due to Simon Wiles, as it's his boots that Franny 'borrowed' in the opening game against Bradford. He's scored all his goals in them and I don't think he'll be getting those back.
Tommy Lee has been in great nick at the other end too, him and his Kenny Everett hands kept us in it on Saturday. I think we've played some good football and with a few big players coming back from injury the squad can only get stronger. Saturday should be a good game, Darlington have started well and are sitting at the top of the league right now. Even thoughts it's only a few games in it'll be good to test ourselves against them, as they have brought in quality players from higher leagues.
We're at home so have to be positive, I think we can take confidence from the way we have played at home already, and during pre season. A good weeks training has hopefully set us up for that and as my wise old man says, 'the only place success comes before work is in the dictionary'. Maybe there and on reality TV.
