If a week is a long time in politics then a week in football is....well quite a long time too thanks. 3 different results, 3 different performances, with more comebacks than your average 90's boy/girl bands.
Going to Chesterfield when they were flying high didn't deter us from gaining a good point, along with some great spells of football. The less said about our defeat to Stockport the better- as we managed to put that behind us on Saturday. Apologies to the fans for that derby performance but lets just say that I'd settle for a victory against them in the league come December, now we have got the ball rolling at home...
Being one of the only teams in the league without a home win was not something we needed reminding of, and after 22 minutes on Saturday we had hardly given ourselves the best chance of changing that. I'd like to avoid clichés about being 'still asleep' or 'caught napping' because of the early kick off; (I expect someone else will have beaten me to it) but we gifted Wrexham a 2 goal lead, and got one back before half-time after good work from DT and Levi putting it on a plate for me.
I am aware that my 5 goals have come at a cumulative yardage of about 14, but I don't care if all of them come within the 6 yard box this season. It's more a testament to the team's creativity in carving out good chances, although try telling that to Franny. One will drop to you in there mate don't worry....
We were camped in their half for the second period, and it took big Dave coming up from the back to break the deadlock in the 90th with a cracking header from Kev MaC's ball. The momentum continued in to injury time and when the ball dropped in from DT's er...intentional Ronaldinho-esque winner, the lads rightly went a bit mental. By the time I got to the' pile-on' Franny and some others from the bench were already there, and it took Brainy's frame to stop Danny getting completely crushed at the bottom. Perhaps a little lucky, but maybe we were due that one way or another- and with the way we can play I hope it's the start of a good run.
That leads me nicely on to Friday- 'Acrrington Stanley? Who are they?'.....they must be as sick of it as I am, good job they privatised milk or something so that ad isn't about now. It's more the fact that everyone needs to share their Scouse accent with me every time the name is mentioned, not that the ad is particularly bad.
I prefer the Cravendale one with the cows. Back to the football anyway, and it will be a tough game as they have had some decent results at home and are sitting above us in the table. It'd be great to go there and get a win.
Congratulations to the egg chasers last Saturday, even their victory couldn't over-shadow another Scotland triumph! My old man usually says 'I support 2 teams; Scotland and whoever is playing England....'but I didn't mind them getting one over the French after the panning they have taken in the press. Also I noticed Jonny Wilkinson went for the blue and white predator boots with his England kit, probably in support of my Nation, thanks Jonny. Kev Mac and Muzza would probably have been horrified at this lack of colour co-ordination; our resident Imelda Marcos' have a boot for every occasion...
Ps. Congrats to Franny and his fiancée Sarah too- Sarah gave birth to their second little girl on Friday before the game.
