The young defender was given his first professional contract in the summer of 2009 and after biding his time on the bench made his debut the following March, coming on as a late substitute at Accrington.
Matt quickly went on to make his full debut, making several assured appearances at the centre of midfield despite his preferred position of full back. Another box to box player, with a good engine, Matt possesses a long throw-in which has added an extra dimension to the Silkmen's set piece options.
