Another recruit from Wrexham, Carl began his career at Tranmere Rovers, making his debut aged 18 in the FA Cup back in 2003. He worked his way into the first-team and made more than 50 League One appearances for the club.
After Wrexham were relegated to the Blue Square Premier at the end of the 2007/08 season, Carl rejected contract offers from two League clubs, Chester City and Rotherham, in favour of remaining at Wrexham and trying to help them back into the Football League. He played 17 times for Wrexham in the Blue Square Premier either side of a stint on loan at Darlington which was cut short by the Quakers' administration.
Left Wrexham before the end of the 2008/9 season and joined the Silkmen the following summer. Another regular performer at full back, Carl is a combative and committed player much liked by the Moss Rose faithful. A troublesome groin injury eventually required an operation in February but now fully fit the likeable Scouser is expected to be a regular on the left for the club.
