Young full back Matthew was one of three players to make the step up from the Moss Rose youth team at the end of the 2006/07 season, but aside from a brief appearance as a late substitute in the Johnstones Paint Trophy did not feature in the league, spending a lot of last season out on loan.
Keith Alexander awarded Matthew a one year contract in the summer of 2008 summer and he went on to make 28 League Two appearances at right-back, in central defence and even midfield. Signed a new deal at the club in the summer.
