Hammy looking to extend derby record

Posted on: Fri 03 Sep 2010

As the excitement ahead of this weekend's encounter with Stockport County continues to build, Matt Hamshaw is hoping his remarkable record in local derbies is set to continue.

We caught up with our summer arrival ahead of Saturday's clash with one of his former clubs.

"It's a bit weird as when I was at Sheffield Wednesday I was involved in six games against United and we didn't lose one of them," explained Matt.

"They were great games to play in and we just seemed to have the better of them every time we played. It was certainly a good time to be a Wednesday fan and that was something that continued when I moved to Mansfield."

"In two seasons I was involved in four games against Notts County and again I wasn't once on the losing side."

"In fact the only derby game where things haven't gone my way was the one back to the Moss Rose in 2005. It wasn't the nicest of experiences but I'll happily take the same scoreline on Saturday."

"It's a big game for the fans and having picked up our first win in the week our confidence is high, and we're all looking forward to the chance to make it two in two."

"I honestly believe we have a very talented young squad. All that has perhaps been missing is that extra bit of self belief. It's easy for the younger lads sometimes to go into their shell if things aren't going as planning. That's when it comes down to the likes of myself, Morgs, Bolly and Brownie to instil in them that stronger belief."

"But there's nothing better than a few wins to help them along the way. And what better than a win over our local rivals?"
