Paul Bolland scored the winner as the Silkmen beat Rhyl 1-0 at the Moss Rose.
It was a good workout for the Silkmen against a Rhyl side who looked sharp ahead of their challenge for promotion.
But chances were limited and the goal game from the best real opening of the first half as Carl Tremarco raced down the left and hit a ball in to Paul Bolland. The midfielder his his shot which looked to be going in anyway before a defender's head deflected it away from the dive of the 'keeper.
At the other end, Jose Veiga showed his 'sweeper-keeper' abilities, racing off his line to beat an attacker to the ball right at the touchline to put the ball out of play, but other than a couple of routine stops, it was an easy afternoon for the Cape Verde international.
The second half saw a little more in the way of goalmouth action as first Vinny Mukendi and then Izak Reid went close. First it was a characteristic run from Mukendi who broke past two defenders before cutting inside and hitting a curling shot with the outside of his boot which beat the 'keeper only to cannon back off the post. A few moments later, Izak, a second half substitute, made a similar run but his low shot was saved.
There were no further goals as the game drifted to an end with the usual glut of subs, but it left the Silkmen with a record of eight wins and one defeat in pre-season.
