Darlington Programme Preview

Posted on: Fri 30 Apr 2010

What's on offer in this weekend's matchday magazine as the Silkmen take on Darlington at the Moss Rose.

Gary Simpson: "A settled squad is often the key to a good start - and therefore a good season. Last season we had a major clearing of the decks and that is something we don't want to be doing this time around. With that in mind we have moved earlier than usual in getting players signed up."

Mike Rance: "So we go into the final home game of the season with our eyes firmly on the future and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the many people who have given their time, effort and skill to the cause. Clubs like ours can only survive and aspire to thrive through such contributions however small and they're all appreciated."

Opposition Fans Eye View: "It would be great to bounce back at the first attempt and the club wants to do that, but realistically with the bottleneck of well supported and well financed ex league clubs, I don't see it happening. We should hopefully be competetive though, Davey seems to know what he wants and how to do it, and is happy with the budget, but only time will tell."

On this Day 1st May: "The Silkmen were at the bottom of the Second Division table, but still on the way to a haul of 44 points - not far from double the total of the current bottom club in that division - and en route to what remains the only relegation in the club's history."

Getting to know: Gary Simpson "I've done numerous jobs in the past. Shot Blaster. Spray painter. I've worked as a crane driver and also in an Estimating department. The overriding factor was getting a job with an understanding employer, one that allowed me the flexibility to still play my football. So it that respect I was very lucky, albeit it was very tiring at times as Boston wasn't exactly just down the road."

40 Years On: "It had been far from ideal preparation for the Final itself as the Silkmen had played no fewer than FIVE matches in just nine days beforehand. But the day finally arrived and 15,000 had travelled down from Macclesfield to cheer them on."

Plus.. All the latest from the Youth Team, the Community Sports Trust, Macc Ladies, the SST and the fans select XI from the Silkmen's Football League history.
