Simmo looks for repeat performance

Posted on: Tue 09 Mar 2010

Gary Simpson has challenged his team to repeat the level of performance they put in during the win over Hereford ahead of this evening's encounter.

The Silkmen travel to Accrington tonight to take on a Stanley side who will still be smarting after their home defeat to Notts County on Saturday and the caretaker boss is expecting a tough ninety minutes.

"In many ways tonight's game will be a lot tougher than our game at Hereford," explained Gary. "There was a lot of emotion on the day and we were desperate to win the game for Keith. With the media attention attached to the game the lads did wonderfully well to focus their efforts and pick up a much needed three points."

"Tuesday night will be totally different. Although Keith is still very much in our thoughts, and will be so for a long time to come, its more of a case of back to reality tonight. And as Keith would have no doubt pointed out, there is a game of football to be won."

"John (Coleman) won't have liked losing at home to County at the weekend and his team will be keen to get out there and make amends. But if we can put in the same level of performance then we'll give ourselves a real chance to build on the result at Hereford. I am hoping we can take a lot of confidence from the game at Edgar Street. I don't think necessarily we did anything that much different to what we had been doing in recent weeks, but just little things came off for us. That can make all the difference."

"The game at the Moss Rose the other week against Accrington was a close affair and I am expecting it to be a similar case tonight. We're waiting on a few late fitness tests which will affect how we line up, but whoever we send out there, I am sure they'll be up for the task."

"Saturday's win was just the first of fourteen hurdles we have to jump between now and the end of the season. We've thirteen more to go and whilst I don't like looking to far ahead it would be great to go to Sincil Bank on the last day of the season with both us and Lincoln safe. Both clubs were so dear to Keith's heart and it would be a fitting tribute to the end the season playing against City."
